Jump to EndBeing a wife and mother of four teen aged boys and a business woman requires a lot of organization, prioritization and patients. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed. How do you balance both?

I smile often. It is smart to delegate and ask for co-operation in day to day activities. I say please and thank-you frequently so others know how much I value them in my life! It is so important to be in control of behavior as well as speech as I show everyone in my life respect. I like to say that I pace myself. I set boundries and priorities. I give my family the respect to be independent. They need to fill their own shoes. I can't do that for them. I know the pre-signs of being overwhelmed. It is so important to admit mistakes. I take a deep breath. Then I let my yes be yes and my no be no. I end all decisions with a really big thank-you!

I’m not sure how you balance everything!! I think reaching out to others for help and support is a great resource. The firm I work for (Crowe Horwath) believes in Work Live balance and it is encouraging to see that many of our Executives are successful in all aspects of their lives: Leaders at work, involved in their children’s lives, happily married and have some spiritual connection. So, I know it can be done. Take care of YOU first….then you will be in a position to handle everything else. GOOD LUCK!!

I have always worked a full time job as long as I can remember. I had three beautiful girls and continued to work as a Financial Analyst 40hrs per week. I used to have an hour and a half commute home and realized that I was just getting home way too late so I searched for a job closer to home and that let me leave at 5:00 everyday with very little travel. I leave work at work and when I'm home I'm the soccer mom, the cook, the doctor, the teacher and whatever hats I must wear! It's a good balance for me because I love the quiet time at work and the business aspect of the office and then I come home to the more relaxed home aspect of my life. Do I get stressed - OH YEAH! But for the most part I like the home/business balance in my life. Too much of one or the other would really get to me I think.
