Jump to EndThe economy is everywhere in the news these days, but we want to know
exactly how and to what extent REAL women across America are being
affected. Our mission is to provide a voice for women, and these surveys help us tell YOUR story.

Because the company I worked for doesn't want me back. Who knows if it's the economy or age and gender discrimination. The point is I can't provide for my girls right now I'm ashamed to say. I worked until I was hit by a drunk driver 6 years ago. I'm able to work now but the company I worked for would like me to resign. I'm asking what do I do now? I've heard that organizations or people say they want to help others? I sat for 5 hours among people that get financial aid monthly. I don't qualify for state assistance because I have a car. The worker said just sell it. Most humiliating day of my life almost. The state doesn't want to prevent homelessness. I'm a mom of 3 and need to keep the roof over our heads and food on the table. My bills are due now. I will do anything at this point to help my family. I'm not afraid of hard work. My girls are good students and don't know my burden. I never thought I would wonder if I could feed my girls? I know it's my burden. But I need help now. My mask is, I can do everything alone. Masking my shame and pain is more difficult as time goes by. Any help please! Thank you. G, Palmdale, CA

Just want to throw this out where I can.
There are many of people who had to turn to credit in one way or another to make it or get what was needed for our families etc... With this financial bailout we were asked as Americans to bailout the "big time" which doesn't seem to be working but doesn't seem to be reaching any of us to provide any real relief. One way I think that would help the people would be is........
I think credit card companies should HAVE to do what they can to relieve the debt burden and pitch in a little. I just got a letter from JC Penny that they are increasing my interest rate to 23%....why should they continue to rake in the money and we never get a chance to really make a dent. I think they should all cut their interest rates and let all the Americans in debt prison have a chance to pay down their accounts and really make a dent.
Bring back jobs to America. We need to get this free trade stuff that is driving our jobs away from our people back home. We make nothing in this country anymore, we are only expected to buy everything.
Even Hershey Company closed down in Pennsylvania and moved their operations to Morelia Mexico. Nothing is being left for the American People.

I felt the changes happening last year as the dollar started sliding down in value, I work with a Fair Trade co-op in Peru to manufacture my Puppet, and so it was a double whammy, dropping dollar and increased shipping. My margins dropped from a healthy 35% to 20%. As a sole proprietor business, when sales slipped to almost nothing this year, I became aware of what a bad decision that was. No unemployment, no safety net, and now I'm struggling to meet my basic needs. I'm staying positive..creating a non-profit business model now and with the help of others will focus on sustaining my vision through outreach to other non-profits. Anyone working with education, prevention and empowerment of girls & women, get in touch with me please. I want to develop programs specifically for these populations. GRACIAS!
