I am, although I couldn't do it alone! When I was diagnosed with breast cancer at just twenty six years old, losing my breasts was a terrifying thought. I found myself confused and frustrated while searching for information on breast reconstruction. Through my volunteer work I met thousands of survivors that stretched from NY to Africa, and time and time again I saw the injustices that these women were facing. Sub par care, not knowing their options... I felt helpless as I listened to their stories. Something had to be done.
I came together with two incredible reconstructive surgeons to create www.breastreconstruction.org, a global organization that aims to empower women so they can make educated choices about breast reconstruction.
I am a four year survivor, and at thirty one years of age I feel so blessed that I am surrounded by women that inspire me to dream big, and accomplish more.

Posted to: Who do you know that is using their voice to change the world?

My first time trying to change legislation for women. HELP!

Following is my letter to Senator Feinstein. (RE: David COlby ex CFO of Wellpoint Blue Cross ousted for morals causes). I am one of the victims. Dear Senator Feinstein,

My name is Rita DiCarlo. I am a 44 year old female. I have a Doctorate degree as a Chiropractor and am also a registered nurse.
Frederico Sayre is my attorney.

I would like you to read my complaint and attached documents for the following reasons:

1) To update the 1930’s “anti-heart balm” law. Back then a “cad” had two women, unlike Colby who has dozens of fiancés at same time, plus “wives”.
2) To create a law, “Colby’s Law”, that affords innocent victims like myself, the opportunity to protect ourselves and others from predators knowingly exposing us to life altering sexually transmitted diseases. We should have to right to prosecute people for misdemeanors and in cases such as Colby, felonies. *( Isn’t this worse than punching somebody in the nose and having criminal charges pressed???!!!) * I tried to file a police report, code 120600, but they would not go forward on it.

I have a cautionary tale for women, men, teenagers, transsexuals, parents and employers.

I would honor the opportunity to meet with you and discuss this unchartered territory I am entering. I WILL continue to fight for my constitutional rights and for this cause. The fact that he is worth approximately $200 million SHOULD NOT automatically excuse his abuse any longer.

NOTE: I have also recently been questioned by the FBI regarding Colby and child pornography and underage girls.

**I consider this a form of rape, embezzlement and larceny of my person

Posted to: My first time trying to change legislation for women.

Me. If it takes just a few teen age girls to ruin the reputation of one other kid in high school. Just think if a few women spoke the truth about the inadequacies of the countries with the highest GNP's to foster peace. Just a few women who point out what other women are going through in the Congo every day of their lives. And those two women tell two more and two more. But more than that, they tell them and add a recipe to fix it. Telling your friends, "women are starving in the congo" is overwhelming for far too many people. Saying, "hey let's get all our friends together and come up with a plan to help an organization who feeds families in the Congo", now that's an action. It does not make people stop moving like "deers in the head lights". I think if you are passionate about something, you should speak it every day to everyone. People being what they are will start repeating it. You can't change the world in a second but you can create a collective consciousness by your words alone. If you would just speak them.

Posted to: Who do you know that is using their voice to change the world?

The California State Legislature!! Back in 2002 they passed a bill making it a Civil Rights offense to sexually assault women, as a Gender-based hate crimes. Now women can file a civil suit allowing for punitive damages and attorney fees making it possible for them to obtain $$$ for much needed counseling and support services. Read Me My Rights, Inc. is the nonprofit I am founding. We want to educate all women and men as to their rights and responsibilities. The American Bar Association is promoting School-based Legal Clinics which would help girls receive support and guidance. If you are interesting in helping to found this Civil Rights idea please email me at sbmalloy@yahoo.com.
